When students don’t have what they need to start the school year, it can be a big barrier to achievement. Research shows that children who are prepared for school do better in the classroom, but many parents have to make a choice between school supplies and necessities such as food, shelter and utilities. Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts has partnered with United Way to set up a program called Cecil Shorts: Backpack Challenge to help get together school supplies for students who may not be able to afford it. Let’s Stand United and help students be prepared for the first day of class and beyond. You can do this by dropping off school supplies between July 11th and August 8th here at Rio Hair Studio.
“Strong education will equip our students with the knowledge they will need to build a better quality of life for themselves and our community. I’m proud to partner with United Way of Northeast Florida to help encourage academic success and keep kids on track to graduation.
Throughout the year, we’ll be developing ways to increase student achievement and recognize the people that are making it possible.
I hope you’ll join me in this partnership, because great things happen when we LIVE UNITED.”
